For this song, Walk of the Earth had some nice vocals and I liked it, but I was leaning towards the original. It was a toss up so I waited a week and listened again... Then I remembered there was yet another version of this song that I had heard that I liked (I have a friend who is a huge Rateliff fan so I have heard a bit of this stuff). It's also by the Night Sweats but it's an acoustic stripped down version - which in my opinion lets the vocals shine more.
So in the end my selection is #3 and alternative version of Howling at Nothing - Mokum Sessions
But you decide. Here is the original
Nathaniel Rateliff & the Night Sweats Howling at Nothing
and here is the cover by Walk off the Earth Howling at Nothing
Ha, I should have known you would find the mokum session! I didn't want to submit too many videos so i elected to stick with the original.
ReplyDeleteWhen i first went through all three videos I really wanted to like Rateliff better but the WOTE version kept drawing me back in.
Now it's been a few weeks so this time I only listened, didn't watch the videos. What's ultimately clear is this is just a great catchy song all three times!
I don't like the guitar in the original and agree the mokum session brings out the vocal better. WOTE has great harmonies and an infectious energy but this time I also rank the mokum session higher.
That was fun.. thanks for the suggestion.. and so nice to see that we agree.. And yes it's an infectious song... I am thinking Phoebe would like this... she's turning out to be quite a Beatles fan so I am feeling pretty good about that
